Sahan Wijayaratna - Transport, Innovation and Next-Generation Consulting
Guest Speaker Sahan Wijayaratna, Graduate Engineer, AECOM, Transport Advisory team presented a seminar on Transport, Innovation and Next-Generation Consulting to rCITI on 17 March 2016.
Sahan Wijayaratna is currently a Graduate Engineer within the Transport Advisory team in AECOM, Sydney. He has been involved in major transport engineering and strategic planning projects around Australia, including the Goods Line Active Transport Link Feasibility Study and Sydney Rapid Transit. He maintains a keen interest in all areas of traffic and transport engineering including transport modelling, land use planning and strategic transport planning.
Sahan holds a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours (in Civil and Environmental Engineering) and a Bachelor of Business (Finance) from the University of Technology Sydney. He was the recipient of the 2014 ITEANZ Student Award for his undergraduate thesis, 'Impacts of On-street Parking and Access to Land Uses on Road Capacity'. He is a member of the Executive Board for the Institute of Transportation Engineers Australia and New Zealand (ITEANZ), and the Young Professionals Network Committee for the Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management (AITPM).
Sahan's presented on the interaction between innovation and consulting is a complex yet essential process that will shape the development of next-generation solutions. In the transition from university to professional consulting, Sahan Wijayaratna has learnt through experience that the two sides can create game-changing results. Join him as he presents on the projects that have shaped his view of innovation during his career to date. In particular, the presentation will involve a detailed description of his research surrounding the impact of on-street parking on road capacity as well as a discussion of AECOM's involvement in innovative projects around the world, including the SpaceX Hyperloop project.
