Voted Best Poster at the 2022 ITS Australia Awards Ceremony
The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Australia Awards recognise the outstanding work accomplished in the Intelligent Transport Systems industry every year.
Mudabber Ashfaq poster on A Simple Contagion Process Describes Spreading of Traffic Jams in Urban Networks was presented by IMOVE at the 12th ITS Australia Awards ceremony 2022 as part of the poster competition. Mudabber's poster was voted on by leading Industry professionals as the “best poster” and was chosen to be included in the iMOVE Best Poster in Show 2022.
Mudabber’s poster describes his research and how we can relate COVID like contagious diseases to traffic jams. In short, traffic congestion/jam is the disease of the road network. It spreads in the network like a disease. We can treat it the same way we treat a contagious disease. The models used to predict the dynamics of disease spread, like Susceptible- Infected-Recovered (SIR) models, can also describe the congestion dynamics in the road network. These models give us an easy solution to monitor the state of congestion on large-scale networks and even compare them with other networks to get a big picture about traffic.
